Boat Watch vs. Yacht Management: Which Service Does Your Vessel Need?
Understand the difference between scheduled visual boat checks, full yacht management and a marine survey in La Paz.
The right choice depends on the work you need done: documenting visible condition is different from managing equipment and repairs.
What Boat Watch usually covers
Boat Watch is a limited, scheduled visual monitoring service. Depending on the agreement, someone documents accessible areas, visible dock lines and fenders and sends a report with photographs. Its core product is reliable documentation and communication, not a guarantee of vessel security.
What full yacht management may cover
A full yacht manager may schedule maintenance, manage budgets, coordinate crews, arrange provisioning and oversee contractors. The exact scope differs dramatically between providers, and each task should be described and priced in a contract.
What a marine survey is
A qualified marine surveyor examines a vessel for a specific technical purpose, such as insurance or a purchase. A casual photograph-based Boat Watch visit is not a substitute for a survey, engine diagnostics or a safety certification.
How to choose a service
If you mainly need evidence that a marina-kept boat has been visited while you are abroad, visual monitoring may fit. If your boat needs repairs, routine mechanical operation or extensive coordination, consider qualified marine managers and technicians. You may use both services together.
Questions worth asking
Request a sample report, a precise inspection checklist, visit frequency, access requirements, communication times, exclusions, insurance information and an agreed process when the checker notices an abnormality.
